HCC Foundation awards Student Retention Scholarships

 In Education

The HCC Foundation presented a check in the amount of $342,210 for Retention Completion Scholarships to Houston Community College at the HCC Board of Trustees meeting held on February 6.

“On behalf of the HCC Foundation Board of Directors, we are proud to provide scholarship support to HCC students who were identified by HCC Student Services as students who were in danger of being dropped for non-payment,” said HCC Foundation Vice President for Governance David Itz.

Through great collaboration and cooperation and nimbleness, a total of 435 students were awarded $342,210 in scholarship funding; which will help cover their tuition, fees and books.

These students were identified as needing nine or less credits to complete their program. The Foundation office worked closely with the Financial Aid team to match the students against the Foundation’s scholarship criteria to provide Retention Scholarships.

Itz presented the check on behalf of the Foundation and extended special recognition to HCC Student Services and the Financial Aid team in this great collaborative effort to help students complete their HCC education.

“We know that life happens, and many HCC students are just one flat tire away from dropping out of school. This gift today represents that we really do have the power to change lives with the gift of education.”
