PROJECT COMPLETION – WCJC officially celebrates renovated Johnson Building

A $6.5 million renovation project on WCJC’s Johnson Health Occupations Center is now complete. The project included the construction of an 18,000 square foot addition and the renovation of the existing building.

WHARTON, TEXAS – Wharton County Junior College will officially celebrate the completion of a large-scale renovation project that has transformed its Johnson Health Occupations Center.

Begun in June of 2017, the $6.5 million project included the construction of a new 18,000 square foot addition on the facility’s north side in addition to major renovation on the existing 34,000 square foot building.

A formal ribbon cutting is slated for 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 20. An indoor ceremony is planned, with brief remarks from college officials followed by a tour with demonstrations. Refreshments will be served, and college employees, students and faculty – along with the general public – are invited to attend.

The project will enable the college to offer cutting-edge training needed for successful employment in the competitive healthcare field. The Johnson Health Occupations Center contains the bulk of the college’s Allied Health programs, including Associate Degree Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Health Information Technology, Human Services, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Vocational Nursing and Pre-baccalaureate Nursing.

The college’s Emergency Medical Services program has also been relocated to the facility.

“We could not be more excited about the completion of this beautiful, state-of-the-art facility,” said WCJC President Betty McCrohan. “Through this project, we will continue to be able to provide our students with the skills and education needed for employment in the competitive healthcare industry.”

McCrohan credited the Johnson Foundation and Gulf Coast Medical Foundation for providing funding.

“They made all of this happen through their generous support,” she said.
