CYPRESS, Texas (Jan. 24, 2019) Lone Star College-CyFair started the new year celebrating the new LSC-Westway Park Technology Center, which opened this semester for students interested in the Information Technology (IT) and Visual Communication (VisCom) programs.

“This Center of Excellence was designed very intentionally to help IT and VisCom students graduate with the innate ability to work in any business as a skilled professional in their respective industry,” said Dr. Seelpa Keshvala, LSC-CyFair president.

Among the program highlights available are cybersecurity, mobile app development and various Cisco and Microsoft networking, motion graphics, web design and 3d animation, to name a few.

In addition to the IT and VisCom certificate and degree programs offered, college administrators are in the process of securing approval to offer a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) degree in cybersecurity.

Renovating 60,000 square feet of this 133,000-square-foot facility began in April 2018. In addition to classrooms and simulated work environments, this advanced technology center includes:

  • An instructional data center
  • An interactive board showcasing student projects and programs
  • A fabrication lab for students to collaborate on projects
  • A learning theater available for LSC-CyFair staff, community members and business partners to use for events

“The flexibility of this nontraditional, state-of-the-art, training facility will allow us to provide specialized training to ensure our students are properly prepared for the ever-evolving industry demands for skilled workers,” said Dr. Keshvala.

Among the speakers at the Jan. 11 ribbon-cutting celebration were LSC Chancellor Dr. Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Board Chair Dr. Alton Smith, Ed.D, industry partners Neal Tilley, manager of higher education with Cisco, and Dr. Stephanie Franklin-Thomas, senior director with Baker Hughes and Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce President Leslie Martone.

In addition, Dr. Keshvala extended gratitude to the many community partners, design and construction partners, and LSC system and college employees working closely with the LSC-CyFair team of administrators, faculty and staff. Their dedication and teamwork brought the LSC-Westway Park Technology Center from conception to completion, and in time for the start of the spring semester.
