A total of 103 students recently visited Brazosport College on its sixth-annual welding certification day.

During the event, students had the opportunity to be tested on their welding skills and become certified. A total of 96 tests were administered, with 70 certifications earned.

“The certifications earned by these students is representative of one or two years of hard work in order to have the proficiency to earn the certification,” said Beth Cassidy, Brazosport College Director of Workforce Development and School Partnerships. “These skills are changing students’ lives and I am thankful for the big part played by volunteers and sponsors for this certification day. They give, and they make a difference.”

The event was also highlighted by a tremendous amount of community support.

A total of 24 CWI professionals served as inspectors for the students, while Versa and NDIC brought trucks to complete Radiographic Testing (RT) and Ultrasonic Testing (UT) of welds. CWI inspectors also visited from Dow Chemical Company, Zachry, Performance Contractors and PraxAir.

Sponsors included Marquis Construction, Mejia Supply Gas and Supply-Freeport, the Wood Group, Lincoln Electric, ICS, PraxAir, AllTex Welding, Vernor Material, Fronius and Turner Industries.
